During a speech on Friday to the people of France, French President Francois Hollande said that the terrorist attacks that left 17 people dead and several wounded would not “divide” the French people and that the terrorist were not a representation of the “Muslim Religion.

“We must demonstrate our determination to fight against anything that can divide us… Not to be divided means we must not make any confusion and to make it easy to remove any out trump concerning these terrorist these fanatics who have nothing to do with the Muslim religion,” said Hollande.

France has the largest Muslim population in Europe. And there is concern that extremist on both sides will try to use the attacks in order to divide the French and Muslim populations.

Hollande, however, said that he will not tolerate extremism of any kind and that “unity” is the “best weapon” they [the French and Muslim people] have to fight extremism.

“I call on you also to unity because I express myself the French people. This is our best weapon, unity,” said Hollande.

On Wednesday, Cherif Kouachi and his brother Said Kouachi stormed the Charlie Hebdo offices and killed 12 people and wounded 11 people.

Cherif and Said Kouachi targeted Charlie Hebdo because of the magazine’s satirical depictions of the Islamic prophet Mohammad.

It has been reported that Cherif Kouachi has connections to a Yemen terrorist cell. And that he and Amedi Coulibaly, who killed four people during a hostage takeover at a Kosher deli, both have connections to the Yemen terrorist cell.

Cherif Kouachi, Said Kouachi, and Amedi Coulibaly were killed by French police officers in a gunfight. Amedi Coulibaly wife, Hayat Boumeddiene, has not been caught.
